 कपिल देव क्रिकेट की दुनिया का एक ऐसा नाम हैं, जिनको क्रिकेट में उच्च एवं सम्मानीय दर्जा प्राप्त है. इस महान खिलाड़ी ने भारत में पहली बार क्रिकेट वर्ल्ड कप लाने का काम किया था, जिसको उस समय किसी ने भी सपने में भी नहीं सोचा था. इन्होंने साल 1999 एवं साल 2000 के बीच 10 महीने तक भारत के कोच की भूमिका निभाई थी. हरियाणा तूफान के नाम से जाने वाले इस क्रिकेटर को क्रिकेट पिच पर कभी भी रन आउट होते हुए नहीं देखा गया था. इस खिलाड़ी ने अपनी फिटनेस पर इतना ध्यान दिया हुआ था कि सेहत की वजह से इन्हें कभी भी टेस्ट मैच से बाहर नहीं किया गया. कपिल देव दाएं हाथ के बल्लेबाज होने के साथ साथ दाएं हाथ के तेज गेंदबाज भी थे, जो तेजी से रन बनाना पसंद करते थे.

कपिल देव का जन्म एवं शिक्षा 

ये महान खिलाड़ी पंजाब के एक बहुत प्रसिद्ध शहर चंडीगढ़ में पैदा हुए थे.  इन्होंने अपनी प्रारंभिक शिक्षा डी. ए. वी. स्कूल से प्रारम्भ की और स्नातक की पढ़ाई के लिए सेंट एडवर्ड कॉलेज में गए. खेल में रूचि एवं प्रतिभा को देखकर इनको देश प्रेम आजाद के पास क्रिकेट सीखने के लिए भेजा गया. 

कपिल देव का परिवार 

जब भारत और पाकिस्तान को अलग किया जा रहा था, उस समय इनका परिवार रावलपिंडी (पाकिस्तान) से फाजिल्का (भारत) में आकर रहने लगा था. यहीं पर इनके पिता रामलाल निखंज ने लकड़ी का व्यवसाय किया. पाकपट्टन पाकिस्तान से सम्बन्ध रखने वालीं इनकी माता राजकुमारी एक ग्रहणी थीं. ये कुल मिलाकर सात भाई-बहन थे जिनमें से चार बहनें, तीन भाई थे, जबकि ये छठे स्थान पर थे. कुछ समय बाद इनके माता-पिता ने पंजाब की राजधानी में रहना उचित समझा. इनका विवाह सन् 1980 में रोमी भाटिया नाम की एक स्त्री से हुआ था. इसके 17 साल बाद इनके यहां एक लड़की का जन्म हुआ, जिसका नाम अमिया देव रखा गया था. 

कपिल देव का क्रिकेट करियर

• कपिल देव का करियर सन् 1975 से प्रारम्भ हुआ था. जब इन्होंने हरियाणा के लिए पंजाब के विरुद्ध मैच खेला था, जिसमें कपिल देव ने 6 विकेट के साथ हरियाणा को शानदार जीत दिलाकर, पंजाब को 63 रन पर ही ढेर कर दिया था.
• सन् 1976 -77 में जम्मू कश्मीर के विरुद्ध खेले गए एक मैच में इन्होंने 08 विकेट लिए तथा 36 रन बनाये और उन्होंने उसी वर्ष बंगाल के विरुद्ध 07 विकेट तथा 20 रन बनाये थे. इन दोनों मैचों में इनकी प्रतिभा सबको दिखाई देने लगी.
• इसके बाद इन्होंने सन् 1978 में टेस्ट मैच खेलना प्रारम्भ कर दिया था. इन्होंने अपना पहला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय टेस्ट मैच पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ खेला था. इस मैच में कपिल देव ने सिर्फ 13 रन बनाए थे, हालांकि 1 विकेट भी लिया था.
• कपिल देव ने बेहतरीन बल्लेबाजी से सन् 1979 -1980 में उन्होंने दिल्ली के खिलाफ 193 रन की नाबाद पारी खेलकर हरियाणा को शानदार जीत दिलायी. ये उनके करियर का पहला शतक था. जिसके बाद साबित हो गया की कपिल देव सिर्फ गेंदबाजी से ही नहीं बल्कि बल्लेबाजी से भी भारत को जीत दिला सकते हैं. इनकी दोनों प्रतिभाओं की बदौलत इनको अभी तक का सबसे बेहतरीन आलराउंडर माना जाता है.
• 17 अक्टूबर सन् 1979 में वेस्टइंडीज के खिलाफ उन्होंने 124 में 126 रन बनाये थे. इसको इनकी एक यादगार पारी के रूप में गिना जाता है. 

कप्तानी 

 उस समय सन् 1982-83 में भारत श्रीलंका से मैच खेलने गया हुआ था. लेकिन आधिकारिक तौर पर इन्हें वेस्टइंडीज में हो रही एकदिवसीय मैचों की श्रृंखला में कप्तान बनने का मौका मिला. उस समय वेस्टइंडीज टीम का काफी बोलबाला था, मतलब उस समय वेस्टइंडीज टीम को हराना नामुमकिन सा था. और सुनील गावस्कर की शानदार पारी के सहारे वेस्टइंडीज को भारत ने एक मैच में हरा दिया था. उस मैच में सुनील गावस्कर जो इनके साथी खिलाड़ी थे उन्होंने 90 रन बनाये थे. वहीं कपिल देव ने 72 रन बनाने के साथ-साथ 2 विकेट भी चटकाए थे. इसी जीत की बदौलत भारत को आने वाले वर्ल्ड कप में वेस्टइंडीज को हरा पाने का विश्वास बढ़ गया. जो कि विश्व कप हासिल करने में दिखाई दिया था. 

1983 का वर्ल्ड कप 

उसके बाद 1983 के वर्ल्ड कप का समय आया. हालांकि पिछले विश्व कप में भारतीय टीम के प्रदर्शन को देखने के बाद किसी ने उम्मीद नहीं की थी कि भारत विश्व कप जीत सकता है. जब कपिल देव ने वर्ल्ड कप में खेलना शुरू किया था तब इनका औसत: 24.94 सामान्य बॉलर की तरह ही था. भारत को सेमीफइनल में पहुंचने के लिए ज़िम्बाब्वे से मैच जीतना आवश्यक हो गया था. उस मैच के दौरान भारत लगभग हार की ओर बढ़ ही रहा था कि कपिल देव ने अपनी शानदार बल्लेबाजी की बदौलत मैच संभाल लिया. इसी मैच के दौरान इन्होंने 175 रन बनाकर ज़िम्बाब्बे की गेंदबाजी को धोकर रख दिया, क्योंकि इन्होंने सिर्फ 138 गेंदों में ये रन बनाएं थे. जिसमें इन्होंने 22 बॉउंड्रीज, 16 चौके और 6 छक्कों की मदद से लगाईं थीं. 9 वें विकेट के लिए 126 रन की सबसे बड़ी साझेदारी किरमानी (22 रन) एवं कपिल देव के बीच हुई थी, जिसको 27 सालों तक कोई नहीं तोडा पाया था. इतना ही नहीं इसी मैच में कपिल देव ने शानदार गेंदबाजी करते हुए ज़िम्बाब्बे के 5 विकेट भी लिए थे. 

इसके बाद कपिल देव को मर्सिडीज कार पुरस्कार के रूप में मिली, यही पारी इनके जीवन की सबसे यादगार एवं महत्वपूर्ण पारी थी. जिसने इनको सबकी नजरों में महान बनाया. इस मैच की बदौलत भारत का 1983 के विश्व कप में जीत के लिए अपना सफर तय कर पाने का रास्ता मिला था. 1983 के विश्व कप के दौरान बीबीसी की हड़ताल की वजह से इस मैच का टेलीकास्ट नहीं हो सका था और इस मैच का लुफ्त क्रिकेट प्रेमी नहीं उठा सके थे.

भारत को 1983 विश्व कप अपने नाम करने के लिए वेस्टइंडीज को फाइनल में हराना पड़ा था.  भारत ने कपिल देव की कप्तानी में 1983 में इंग्लैंड में होने वाले इस वर्ल्ड कप को जीतकर इतिहास रच दिया. कहा जाता है इस शानदार प्रदर्शन की बदौलत भारत भी क्रिकेट की दुनिया का सितारा बनकर सामने आया. इस समय भारत को एक अलग स्तर पर देखा जाता है. इतना ही नहीं भारत ने अभी तक सभी तरह की ट्रॉफी जीत रखीं है. 

कपिल देव के करियर का बुरा दौर

उसके बाद 1984 में वेस्टइंडीज के साथ टेस्ट मैचों के साथ एकदिवसीय मैंचों की श्रृंखला का आयोजन किया गया. जिसमें भारत की बुरी हार हुई. वहीं ये कपिल देव के करियर का सबसे बुरा वक्त था, जिससे चयनकर्ताओं ने इनको कप्तानी के पद से हटाने का फैसला लिया और फिर से गावस्कर को कप्तान बना दिया गया.

इसके बाद कपिल देव 1987 में कप्तान बनाया गया, जिसमें भारत सेमीफाइनल तक पहुंचा था. लेकिन भारत इंग्लैंड से हारकर विश्व कप जीतने में असफल रहा और सबने इसके लिए देव पर ही इल्जाम लगा दिया. एक बार फिर से इनसे कप्तानी छीनकर गावस्कर को दे दी गई, यही इनकी कप्तानी का अंतिम सफर था. जिसके बाद इनको कभी भी कप्तान बनने का मौका नहीं मिला. हालांकि 1989 में उपकप्तान जरूर बनाया गया था. 

कपिल देव के कोच बनने का सफर 

बीसीसीआई ने इन्हें भारत का कोच नियुक्त किया लेकिन कुछ विवाद के चलते इन्होंने केवल 10 महीने में ही इस्तीफा दे दिया. कहा जाता है कि ऑस्ट्रेलिया से भारत के 2-0 से श्रृंखला हारने के बाद इन पर मैच फिक्सिंग का आरोप लगाया गया था. जिसके चलते इन्होंने इन सब बेबुनियादी आरोपों से बचने के लिए अपने पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया. 

कपिल देव पुरस्कार एवं उपलब्धियां 

• सन् 1979-80 के सत्र में क्रिकेट में अच्छा प्रदर्शन करने की वजह से इन्हें भारत सरकार द्वारा दिया जाने वाला अर्जुन पुरस्कार दिया गया. ये पुरस्कार सरकार उन खिलाड़ी को देती हैं जिन्होंने किसी भी खेल के क्षेत्र में उत्कृष्ट योगदान दिया हो.
• उसके 1982 के दौरान भारत ने कपिल देव की प्रतिभा और लगन को देखकर पद्म श्री का पुरस्कार भी इन्हें दिया. इतना ही नहीं इनको एक साल बाद यानी कि सन् 1983 विज्डन क्रिकेटर ऑफ द ईयर का सम्मान दिया गया, जिसका आधार इनकी विश्व-कप में जबरदस्त प्रदर्शन को माना जाता है.
• इन्होंने 1994 में रिचर्ड हेडली का टेस्ट क्रिकेट में सबसे ज्यादा विकेट हासिल करने का रिकार्ड तोड़ दिया था. इतना ही नहीं टेस्ट क्रिकेट में 400 विकेट के साथ-साथ टेस्ट क्रिकेट में अपने 4000 रन पूरे करने वाले अभी तक के विश्व के उच्चतम खिलाड़ी हैं.
• सन् 1991 में कपिल देव के योगदान एवं लगन को सम्मानित करने के लिए पद्म भूषण जैसा उच्चतम पुरस्कार दिया गया. इसके बाद सन् 2002 में सदी के विज्डन भारतीय क्रिकेटर के सम्मान को देकर इनका दर्जा क्रिकेट की दुनिया में और बड़ा दिया गया.
• सन् 2010 आईसीसी क्रिकेट हॉल ऑफ फेम पुरस्कार देकर इनकी प्रतिभा को सम्मानीय दर्जा दिया गया. इसके तीन साल बाद सन् 2013 एनडीटीवी द्वारा भारत में 25 सबसे महान वैश्विक जीवित महापुरूष का खिताब दिया गया.
• भारतीय सेना से जुड़ने के लिए कपिल देव ने सन् 2008 भारतीय क्षेत्रीय सेना में लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल का पद ग्रहण कर लिया. भारतीय सेना का अधिक सम्मान करने की वजह से इन्होंने ऐसा किया था.

कपिल देव के जीवन पर आधारित फिल्म 

भारतीय सिनेमा के मशहूर निर्देशक कबीर खान ने कपिल देव की बायोपिक बनाने का  काम शुरू कर दिया है. जब कपिल देव से पूछा गया था कि आपका किरदार किस अभिनेता को दिया जाना चाहिए, तो उन्होंने रणवीर  सिंह  का नाम लिया था. फैंटम प्रोडक्शन एवं अनुराग बासु के साथ अन्य लोगों ने भी इस फिल्म पर अपना पैसा लगाया है. जिसमें रणवीर सिंह को कपिल देव की भूमिका में अभिनय करते हुए देखा जाएगा.

कपिल देव के जीवन के रोचक तथ्य 

1. कपिल देव ने व्यापार करने के लिए कैप्टन्स एलेवेन नाम से सन् 2006 में दो रेस्टोरेंट खोले जिनमें एक चंडीगढ़ में हैं और दूसरा पटना में मौजूद है, जिनको ये खुद संभालते हैं.
2. कपिल देव एक ऐसे खिलाडी हैं, जिन्होंने दो से अधिक फिल्मों में छोटी-छोटी भूमिकाएं निभाई हैं. जिनके नाम ‘इकबाल’ दूसरी ‘मुझसे शादी करोगी’ एवं ‘ये दिललगी है’. इतना ही नहीं अभी हाल में कपिल देव के ऊपर एक फिल्म बनने की खबरें भी आ रहीं हैं.
3. कपिल देव की रूचि किताबें लिखने में भी बहुत है, इसलिए इन्होंने अभी तक तीन आत्मकथाएं लिखी है, जिनके नाम ‘गोड्स डिक्री’, ‘क्रिकेट माय स्टाइल’ एवं ‘स्ट्रैट फ्रॉम माय हार्ट’ शामिल हैं.

Birth and education of Kapil Dev
These great players were born in Chandigarh, a very famous city of Punjab. He did his elementary education D.A. V. started from school and went to St. Edward's College for graduation. Seeing his interest and talent in sports, he was sent to Desh Prem Azad to learn cricket.
Family of Kapil Dev
When India and Pakistan were being separated, at that time their family had moved from Rawalpindi (Pakistan) to Fazilka (India). It was here that his father Ramlal Nikhanj did a wood business. Her mother Rajkumari was a duodenum, who belonged to Pakpatan Pakistan. These were seven siblings in total, of which four were sisters, three were brothers, while they were in sixth place. He took 08 wickets and scored 36 runs in a match played against Jammu and Kashmir in 1976 -77 and he scored 07 wickets and 20 runs against Bengal in the same year. His talent started appearing in both these matches.
After this, he started playing Test matches in 1978. He played his first international Test match against Pakistan. In this match, Kapil Dev had scored only 13 runs, although he also took 1 wicket.
Kapil Dev gave Haryana a resounding victory by playing an unbeaten innings of 193 against Delhi in 1979-1980 with excellent batting. This was the first century of his career.  At that time, India went to Sri Lanka to play matches in 1982–83. But officially he got a chance to become captain in the ODI series in West Indies. At that time the West Indies team was very influential, meaning it was impossible to defeat the West Indies team at that time. And with the help of Sunil Gavaskar's brilliant innings, West Indies was defeated by India in a match. In that match, Sunil Gavaskar, who was his fellow player, scored 90 runs. At the same time, Kapil Dev took 2 wickets along with scoring 72 runs. This victory increased the confidence of India to beat the West Indies in the upcoming World Cup. Which appeared in the World Cup.

Then came the 1983 World Cup. However, after seeing the performance of the Indian team in the last World Cup, no one expected that India could win the World Cup. India had to defeat the West Indies in the final to win the 1983 World Cup. India created history by winning this World Cup in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. It is said that due to this spectacular performance, India also emerged as the star of the cricket world. At this time India is seen on a different level. Not only this, India has so far won all trophies.

Bad phase of Kapil Dev's career

Then in 1984, a series of one-day matches was held along with the Test matches with the West Indies. In which India was badly defeated. At the same time, it was the worst time of Kapil Dev's career, due to which the selectors decided to remove him from the post of captaincy and Gavaskar was made the captain again.

After this, Kapil Dev was made the captain in 1987, in which India reached the semi-finals. But India failed to win the World Cup after losing to England and all blamed Dev for this. Once again, he was stripped of his captaincy and given to Gavaskar, this was his last journey to captaincy. After which he never got a chance to become captain. Although the vice-captain was definitely created in 1989.

Kapil Dev's journey to become coach

The BCCI appointed him as India's coach but due to some controversy, he resigned only in 10 months. It is said that he was charged with match-fixing after India's 2–0 series loss to Australia. Due to which he resigned from his post to avoid all these baseless allegations.

Kapil Dev Awards and Achievements

He was awarded the Arjuna Award given by the Government of India for his good performance in cricket in the 1979–80 season. These awards are given to the sportspersons who have made outstanding contributions in any field of sports.

During his 1982, India also gave him the Padma Shri award after seeing Kapil Dev's talent and dedication. Not only this, he was awarded the honor of the 1983 Wisden Cricketer of the Year after a year, the basis of which is considered his tremendous performance in the World Cup.

In 1994, he broke Richard Headley's record for most wickets in Test cricket. Not only this, along with 400 wickets in Test cricket, he is still the highest player in the world to complete his 4000 runs in Test cricket.

In 1991, the highest award like Padma Bhushan was given to honor Kapil Dev's contribution and dedication. After this, in 2002, the status of Wisden Indian cricketer was given his status in the cricket world.

His talent was given honorable status by the 2010 ICC Cricket Hall of Fame award. Three years later, 2013 was given the title of 25 Greatest Global Living Legends in India by NDTV.

To join the Indian Army, Kapil Dev assumed the position of Lieutenant Colonel in the 2008 Indian Territorial Army. He did this because of respecting the Indian Army more.

A film based on the life of Kapil Dev

The famous director of Indian cinema Kabir Khan has started the work of making the biopic of Kapil Dev. When Kapil Dev was asked which actor should be given your character, he took the name of Ranveer Singh. Along with Phantom Production and Anurag Basu, other people have also put their money on this film. In which Ranveer Singh will be seen acting in the role of Kapil Dev.

Interesting facts of Kapil Dev's life

Kapil Dev opened two restaurants to do business under the name Captain's Elevan in 2006, one in Chandigarh and the other in Patna, which he himself handles.

Kapil Dev is a player who has played small roles in more than two films. Those whose names are 'Iqbal', 'Will you marry me' and 'This is Dilalgi'. Not only this, there are also reports of a film being made on Kapil Dev recently.

Kapil Dev is also very interested in writing books, so he has written three autobiographies so far, namely 'God's Decree', 'Cricket my style' and 'Straight from my heart'.
