Sushant Singh Rajput was an Indian actor best known for his work in Hindi cinema. He starred in a number of commercially successful Bollywood films such as M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kedarnath and Chhichhore. He won a Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his role as Coal Kapoor in the 2017 movie Kai Po Che!

Although born in Patna, he considers himself a Maharashtrian and said that since childhood, he was fascinated with the Rajasthani language. He also did a Hindi schooling from St. Xaviers, Mumbai. He currently resides in Mumbai with his family. He was romantically linked to Ekta Kapoor and Bipasha Basu.

Early life

Sushant Singh Rajput was born in Gurgaon, Haryana on 21 February 1988. His father, Rajesh, is a former air force pilot, now an industrialist.[2][3] He has a younger sister, Sonam, who is also an actress.[4] He studied at the Kendriya Vidyalaya and Cathedral and John Connon School, before graduating from St. Xaviers, Mumbai.

Career

Rajput made his acting debut in the 2010 Indian Hindi-language drama film Aamir.[6] The same year, he played the main role in the remake of the 2009 South Korean film War of the Arrows.[7] He later appeared in the Marathi film Chumbak, in which he co-starred with Nana Patekar.

In 2011, Rajput played an interesting cameo role in the controversial 2009 Indo-Pakistani thriller film Chak De! India.

In 2012, Rajput played a lead role in the commercial success Raabta alongside Kriti Sanon, playing a kabaddi player.[8][9]

In 2016, Rajput played the role of a superstar in the Hindi-language sports drama M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, for which he won a Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He co-starred with Kriti Sanon in the romantic comedy Raabta, in which they play a couple who love to chase dreams. He then appeared in the 2015 sports film M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, portraying the life of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian national cricket team.[10][11] The film was a financial and critical success, and was an official selection in the main competition section of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

On 12 August 2017, he was announced as one of the three new cast members of Karan Johar's directorial Student of the Year 2.

Personal life

Rajput was in a relationship with actress Nupur Asthana, with whom he co-starred in Dhoom 3.
