HARSHAD MEHTA SCAM 1992 STOCK BROKER

हर्षद मेहता जिसका पूरा नाम हर्षद शांतिलाल मेहता था, अपने समय में शेयर मार्केट का बेताज बादशाह था। 29 जुलाई 1954 को पनेल मोटी , राजकोट गुजरात में हर्षद मेहता का जन्म एक छोटे से बिजनेस मैन परिवार में हुआ। हर्षद मेहता का बचपन मुंबई के कांदि वली में गुजरा। उसके बाद उनका परिवार रायपुर के मौदहापारा गुरूनानक चौक मे आ के बस गया। रायपुर के होली क्रॉस बेरोन बाजार सेकेंडरी स्कूल से उन्होंने स्कूली पढ़ाई की।

 बारहवीं पास करने के बाद हर्षद मेहता ने मुबंई के लाजपत राय कॉलेज से बी.कॉम की पढ़ाई की फिर अगले आठ साल तक छोटी छोटी नौकरियां की। 1976 में बी कॉम पास करने के बाद हर्षद ने पहली नौकरी न्यू इंडिया अश्योरेंस कंपनी लिमिटेड में बतौर सेल्स पर्सन की और उसी वक़्त उनका इंटरेस्ट शेयर मार्केट की तरफ जागा औऱ उसने नौकरी छोड़ हरिजीवनदास नेमीदास सिक्योरिटीज नाम की ब्रोक्रेज फर्म में बतौर जॉबर नौकरी ज्वॉइन कर ली और प्रसन्न परिजीवनदास को अपना गुरु मान लिया।

 प्रसन्न परिजीवनदास के साथ काम करते हुए हर्षद मेहता ने स्टॉक मार्केट के हर पैंतरे सीखे औऱ 1984 में खुद की ग्रो मोर रीसर्स एंड असेट मैनेजमेंट नाम की कंपनी की शुरुआत की और और बॉम्बे स्टॉक एक्सचेंज में बतौर ब्रोकर मेंबरशिप ली। और यहां से शुरू हुआ स्टॉक मार्केट के उस बेताज बादशाह का सफर जिसे आगे चलकर स्टॉक मार्केट अमिताभ बच्चन व रेजिंग बुल कहा जाने लगा।

हर्षद मेहता घोटाला?

1990 के दशक में हर्षद मेहता की कंपनी में बड़े इवेस्टर पैसा लगाने लगे थे, मगर जिस वजह से हर्षद मेहता का नाम स्टॉक मार्केट में छाया वो एसीसी यानी एसोसिएटेड सीमेंट कंपनी में उनका पैसा लगाना शुरू किया। हर्षद मेहता के एसीसी के पैसा लगाने के बाद मानो एसीसी के भाग्य ही बदल गए, क्योंकी एसीसी का जो शेयर 200 रुपये का था उसकी कीमत कुछ ही समय में 9000 हो गई। 1990 तक आते आते हर्षद मेहता का नाम हर बड़े अखबार, मैगजीन के कवर पेज पर आए दिन आने लगा। स्टॉक मार्केट में हर्षद मेहता का नाम बड़े अदब से लिया जाने लगा।

 हर्षद मेहता के 15500 स्कॉयर फीट के सी फेसिंग पेंट हाउस से लेकर उनकी मंहगी गाड़ियों के शौक तक सबने उन्हें एक सेलिब्रिटी बना दिया था। ऐसा पहली बार हो रहा था कि कोई छोटा सा ब्रोकर लगातार इतना इंवेस्ट कर रहा है और हर इवेस्टमेंट के साथ करोड़ों कमा रहा है। बस इसी सवाल ने हर्षद मेहता के अच्छे दिनों को बुरे दिनों में तब्दील कर दिया। सवाल था कि आखिर हर्षद मेहता इतना पैसा कहां से ला रहा है?

1992 में हर्षद मेहता के इस राज से टाइम्स ऑफ इंडिया की पत्रकार सुचेता दलाल ने इस राज का पर्दाफाश किया। सुचेता दलाल ने बताया कि हर्षद मेहता बैंक से एक 15 दिन का लोन लेता था और उसे स्टॉक मार्केट में लगा देता था। 

साथ ही 15 दिन के भीतर वो बैंक को मुनाफे के साथ पैसा लौटा देता था। मगर कोई भी 15 दिन के लिए लोन नहीं देता, मगर हर्षद मेहता बैंक से 15 दिन का लोन लेता था। हर्षद मेहता एक बैंक से फेक बीआर बनावाता जिसके बाद उसे दूसरे बैंक से भी आराम से पैसा मिल जाता था। हालांकि इसका खुलासा होने के बाद सभी बैंक ने उससे अपने पैसे वापस मागने शुरू कर दिए। खुलासा होने के बाद मेहता के ऊपर 72 क्रमिनर चार्ज लगाए गए और लगभग सिविल केस फाइल हुए।

कैसे करता था घोटाला

हालांकि इन सब के बावजूद हर्षद मेहता का मन नहीं माना, वो अखबारों में एडवाइजरी कॉलम्स लिखने लगा कि आप इस कंपनी में इंवेस्ट करे आपको फायदा होगा या इस कंपनी में ना करें इससे नुकसान होगा। बाद में पता चला कि मेहता सिर्फ उस कंपनी में पैसा लगाने कि एडवाइस देता था जिसमें उसका खुद का पैसा लगा हुआ है।

प्रधानमंत्री नरसिम्हा राव पर लगाया घोटाले का आरोप

हरशद मेहता ने 1993 में पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री और उस वक़्त कांग्रेस के अध्यक्ष पी वी नरसिम्हा राव पर केस से बचाने के लिए 1 करोड़ घूस लेने का आरोप लागया था। हालांकि प्रयाप्त सबूत ना होने के कारण सरकार द्वारा इसे सिरे से खारिज कर दिया गया था।

रहस्यमई मौत

हर्षद मेहता पर कई सारे केस चल रहे थे मगर उसे मात्र 1 केस में दोषी पाया गया था। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने उसे दोषी पाते हुए 5 साल की सजा और 25000 रुपये का जुर्माना ठोका था। मेहता थाणे जेल मनें बंद था। 31 दिसंबर 2001 को देर रात उसे छाती में दर्द की शिकायत हुई जिसके बाद उसे थाणे सिविल अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया जहां उसकी मौत हो गई।

Harshad Mehta, whose full name was Harshad Shantilal Mehta, was the uncrowned king of the stock market in his time. Harshad Mehta was born on 29 July 1954 in Panel Moti, Rajkot, Gujarat into a small business man family. Harshad Mehta's childhood was spent in Kandi Wali, Mumbai. After that his family settled in Moudhapara Gurunanak Chowk in Raipur. He did his schooling from Holy Cross Beron Bazar Secondary School, Raipur.

 After passing the twelfth, Harshad Mehta studied B.Com from Lajpat Rai College in Mumbai and then did small jobs for the next eight years. After passing his B.Com in 1976, Harshad made his first job as a sales person in New India Assurance Co. Ltd. and at the same time his interest turned to the stock market and he quit his job and joined a job as a job in a brokerage firm named Harijivan Das Nemidas Securities. And accepted the happy Parivajin Das as his Guru.

 Working with Prasanna Parjeevindas, Harshad Mehta learned all the tricks of the stock market and started his own company called Grow More Researchers and Asset Management in 1984 and took membership as a broker on the Bombay Stock Exchange. And from here started the journey of that uncrowned king of the stock market, who later came to be called the stock market Amitabh Bachchan and Raging Bull.

Harshad Mehta scam

In the 1990s, large investors were investing in Harshad Mehta's company, but due to which Harshad Mehta's name started investing his money in the stock market ACC ie Associated Cement Company. 

After Harshad Mehta's ACC money, the fate of ACC changed as it was, because the share of ACC which was worth 200 rupees became 9000 in no time. By 1990, Harshad Mehta's name started coming on the cover page of every big newspaper, magazine. In the stock market, Harshad Mehta's name started to be taken very widely.

 From Harshad Mehta's 15,500 square feet sea-facing paint house to his hobby of expensive cars, everyone made him a celebrity. It was for the first time that a small broker is continuously investing so much and earning crores with every investment.

 Just this question transformed Harshad Mehta's good days into bad days. The question was, where is Harshad Mehta getting so much money from?

In 1992, Harshad Mehta's secret exposed this secret by the Times of India journalist Sucheta Dalal. Sucheta Dalal told that Harshad Mehta used to take a 15-day loan from the bank and put it in the stock market.

Also, within 15 days he used to return the money with profit to the bank. But no one gives a loan for 15 days, but Harshad Mehta used to take a 15-day loan from the bank. Harshad Mehta would make a fake BR from one bank, after which he would get easy money from another bank too. However, after this was revealed, all the banks started asking for their money back from him. After the disclosure, Mehta was charged with 72 criminal charges and nearly filed a civil case.

How used to scam

However, despite all this, Harshad Mehta did not mind, he started writing advisory columns in the newspapers that if you invest in this company, you will benefit or do not do it. Later, it was learned that Mehta used to give advice to invest only in a company in which he has his own money.

Prime Minister Narasimha Rao accused of scam

In 1993, Harshad Mehta accused former Prime Minister and then Congress President PV Narasimha Rao of taking 1 crore bribe to save him from the case. However, it was rejected outright by the government for lack of sufficient evidence.

Mysterious death

Harshad Mehta was facing many cases but he was convicted in only 1 case. The Supreme Court found him guilty and sentenced him to 5 years and a fine of Rs 25,000. Mehta Thane jail was closed. Late on 31 December 2001, he complained of chest pain after which he was admitted to Thane Civil Hospital where he died.
