Rohit Gurunath Sharma is an Indian international cricketer who plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and captains Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League as a right-handed batsman and an occasional right-arm off break bowler. He is the vice-captain of the Indian national team in limited-overs formats and is a current member of the board of selectors.
The Mumbai Indians team had played in six seasons prior to the 2013 IPL, reaching the playoffs on five occasions. Under Rohit's leadership, the Mumbai Indians have played in seven consecutive IPL finals winning two and losing five. Sharma has led the Mumbai Indians to three IPL titles. He has led the Mumbai Indians team to 14 wins in 27 matches. He has also been awarded the 'Emerging Player of the Year Award' in 2015 IPL.
Ahead of IPL 2017, all the available players were put through the lens of statistical analytics. The study focused on analysing the percentage of maximum balls faced (MbS), maximum runs scored (Mss) and maximum wickets taken (MWs). The data was generated from 11 seasons of the IPL. This analysis included both overseas and home based cricketers.
The analysis also looked at aspects such as number of balls bowled, balls faced, and times faced to find an overall picture. These statistics were used to assess how the player has performed on a whole throughout the duration of their career. The conclusion was that Sharma had scored more runs in all the seasons. However, he has been able to save most of his innings while chasing.
This is a significant advantage to him. He was often considered a major danger for opposing teams as he was known to score quick runs.
